Mr. Timothy Coughlan serves as Dean of Studies. Born and raised in Crystal Lake, Illinois, Tim earned his B.A. in History with a focus on English and History Secondary Education from Northern Illinois University and a M.S. in Teaching and Learning with a focus on classroom instruction and pedagogy from Illinois State University. Before becoming part of the Woodhall community in 2021, Tim had accrued two decades of experience as an English and History teacher and Department Chair. He began his career in Illinois public and charter schools, where, in addition to classroom teaching, he served as a football coach and an advisor for clubs such as Quiz Bowl, Chess, Mock Trial, and even Live Action Role Play (LARP). Drawn to the holistic approach of boarding schools, Tim then taught at The Orme School and later at Summit Preparatory School, a therapeutic boarding school in Montana. Most recently, Tim taught at Purnell School, an all-girls boarding school in New Jersey. Mr. Coughlan teaches English and resides in Kavanaugh House. In his free time, he enjoys reading, gaming, museums, trivia, and watching movies.
