Fall Soccer
Phoenix Soccer made significant strides in the Fall of 2019. Though faced with the challenge of integrating numerous new players into the lineup, the team demonstrated growth and perseverance. Led by Captains William Brogan ’20, Parker Anderson '20, and Kyle Elliott '21, the Phoenix navigated injuries that decimated the defensive unit at times. Despite these tribulations, the squad finished the season strong and notched a pair of marquee victories and marquee victories along the way, both of which featured stirring comebacks. Faced with the adversity of a long drive to archrivals Marvelwood and freezing rain conditions that led to a fluke goal against, goalkeeper Kyle Stickler '20 saved a second-half penalty kick that sprang a Phoenix counterattack for the tie-breaking goal. The group's most outstanding performance came in a late-season home match up against Storm King School. Still smarting from an early season loss in the road match-up, the Phoenix held the game close through most of a tense afternoon at Phoenix Field. Midfielder Ben Mathews '23 crowned a magisterial midfield performance with a pair of second-half goals to draw the teams level before Henry Lippman '22 stabbed home a loose ball in the penalty area to give the Phoenix the lead with virtually no time remaining.
